Art Opening

Site Redesign Postponed
Posted on February 12th, 2008 at 4:12pm

Addendum: Work on the third (and final) installment of Painkillers has superceded the need to re-design the website. There will be precious few art updates in the meantime, apart from the new art journal. Check back in April.

Quick note: Updates to this version of the site are going to be infrequent-to-none as I am transitioning out of necessity to the next revision of the site. Aiming to have it refreshed by December. Stay tuned.

Slight System Update, New Life Drawings

Effigy de Miguel
Posted my drawings from this week's Dr Sketchy's Anti-Art School here in Portland to the Sketchbook, along with an Effigy of my good friend Michael who is still in Buenos Aires (thus the Effigy stands in from time to time on his behalf).

While I was tinkering with the website I made a modification to the way thumbnails of sections show up; perhaps it's because I just had my birthday or perhaps it's because I'm just sick of seeing the tallest images show up first because of my aspect-ratio sorting, but now it aggregates and sorts thumbnails of images by year before sorting by height. This means newer art will generally always show up first. It also means it's easier to see a panorama of art over time, rathern than being essentially randomly temporally sorted.

PK2
This update's been a while coming, so there's quite a lot of new stuff on the site!

First of all, Painkillers Book Two is now complete and available in print from Lulu. I've also posted my two-page Writhe and Shine spot, iGoth, written for Robert Tritthardt's Writhe and Shine webcomic. It's available in the professionally re-printed 32-page Writhe and Shine #1, available from Über Comics.

Additionally, the RPG Pirates of the Spanish Main from WizKids has now seen the light of day! I contributed twelve paintings to the interiors, the best of which are now posted to the illustration section, along with a few pieces from last year's Deadlands Reloaded from Pinnacle Entertainment.

Finally, a bunch of sketches and a new lxgkd audio track are up in the sketchbook and music sections.

Painkillers: Book Two

Painkillers: Book Two is now past the three-quarters-completed mark, and is on track to be ready for APE in April, if all goes well with the printing. The book will continue to be posted online as pages are completed, and will remain online indefinitely thereafter.

Dead Valentines is presently on hold while this work is completed, but will be due for an update this summer as Comic-Con approaches.

Openvein 3.1 Update
Minor updates all across the site this week; new sketches, illustrations, and a ten page preview of the upcoming Dead Valentines graphic novel.

The site navigation has been improved to be a bit more orthogonal between content areas, and a page navigation system has been added to all of the comics.

2007 SHOWS

Looks like I'll be tabling at this year's APE, along with Matt Black, same as last year, and I'm looking forward to it. Matt Black brings the Comics. If all goes smoothly with the printer I'll have copies of the finished second book of Painkillers Book Two as well as DV #0 extras.

It's also likely that I'll be again attending Comic-Con, though just in a civilian capacity.

Finally, it looks like Stumptown will be happening about the same time of year (though possibly a bit earlier than October to avoid overlapping with SPX).
October Gallery Showings

DEAD VALENTINES
Been a long time without an update, so I thought I should at least post that all through the month of October I have fifteen pieces from the Dead Valentines series up at Sequential Art in downtown Portland. The reception is 6pm to 10pm on First Thursday, October 5th, which is also coincidentally the 20th anniversary of the First Thursday tradition in Portland! To wit:

DEAD VALENTINES
Sequential Art Gallery
328 NW Broadway #113
Portland, OR
First Thursday, October 5th, 2006, 6pm-10pm
+Saturdays throughout October, 11am-5pm

I also have one piece from Dead Valentines hanging in the Pushdot Studio/Gallery show on digital comics, which also debuts First Thursday, and runs through the month of October.

Finally I'll be at Stumptown Comics Fest 2006 at the end of the month, so quite a busy October it's turning out to be! Art and comics updates are forthcoming.
